Sandy Blitz
New England Regional Administrator
U.S. Small Business Administration


Sandy Blitz was appointed regional administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s New England Region on October 15, 2007.  As regional administrator, Blitz is responsible for the delivery of the agency’s financial assistance, technical assistance and government contracting activities throughout the six New England states.

Blitz has an extensive background in both government and business.  A former economic development representative for the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, Sandy was responsible for overseeing programs to foster business growth throughout New England.  He has also served as the Assistant to the Commissioner of Public Building Services at the General Services Administration and as executive assistant to Mayor Nicholas Panuzio in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

As an entrepreneur, Blitz understands firsthand the challenges of running a business and has in-depth knowledge of New England’s economic environment. Currently, he manages a consulting firm that assists public and private institutions in obtaining government grants and loans. 

Blitz served as the executive director for the East-West Highway Association and was the executive manager of the Bangor Target Area Development Corporation. He is a frequent guest speaker, published writer, and adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Public Administration at the University of Maine.

He received his bachelor’s degree from the Bernard M. Baruch School of Public and Business Administration at the City College of New York and his master’s in public administration from the University of Maine Graduate School.
